A good rule of thumb assume your reader has read the work in question, and he/she just needs reminding

5. With a partner
Write an introduction to the pretend essay you wrote . . .

6. Now, exchange introductions.
1. Look at this introduction and read it aloud to your partner.
2. Does it begin with a general statement?
3. Does it draw the reader in?
4. Is there some basic background information?
5. Is the thesis correct?
Make some general comments on this.

7. Return the intro to its original owners
