2. What shall I do with the first draft I wrote?
Rewrite your first paragraph and make sure that you have properly cited Coben’s article as in the precis you have already written. Do you have a good “hook” in the first paragraph? When you stake your claim is it interesting and does it make the reader want to jump in and read the rest of your paper?

3. What do I do in the second paragraph?
Summarize Coben’s article as we have already done in the precis. Add transitions and comments as need.

4. What do I write in the body of the paper (Paragraph 3, 4, 5, etc.)
Cite evidence from each of your research sources that supports your thesis statement. Make sure you cite the sources correctly as soon as you introduce them. From then on you just need to write the author’s name and the year of publication in parentheses (Freud, 2008).
Explain WHY each source proves your thesis.

5. How do I apply Step 6 of the “First Draft” PowerPoint to my second draft?
Organize your essay so that it presents your position as effectively as possible. (Hint: What might be a good lead-in, or “hook”? What arguments should come first? What arguments should come last?)

6. Is my tone reasonable for my audience?
Does the tone of the essay sound thoughtful and well-researched, and am I speaking to my audience in such a manner that they will be willing to listen?

7. Did I create some common ground?
Are there one or more places in the essay that I agreed with my opponent (i.e. We all want teens to be safe on the internet)

8. What should I do in the closing paragraph(s)?
DO NOT introduce any new evidence.
Very briefly summarize each of the arguments you have already made, and explain WHY each either proves or disproves Coben.
In the last two sentences say WHY IT MATTERS to the world.
