1 HIGH TIDE AND LOW TIDE Oscar Chan

2 Prodution Tides are the rise and fall of sea levels caused by the combined effects of the gravitational forces exerted by the Moon and the Sun and the rotation of the Earth.

3 Tide overview

4 Characteristics Types of tides
Tide changes proceed via the following stages: Sea level rises over several hours, covering the intertidal zone; flood tide. The water rises to its highest level, reaching high tide. Sea level falls over several hours, revealing the intertidal zone; ebb tide. The water stops falling, reaching low tide.

5 Tide Power generation Although not yet widely used, tidal power has potential for future electricity generation. Many recent technological developments and improvements, both in design and turbine technology, indicate that the total availability of tidal power may be much higher than previously assumed, and that economic and environmental costs may be brought down to competitive levels. Tidal energy is a renewable energy source.

6 The Twin-Heart Stone Weir
Stone weir fishing method is unique to Penghus tidal flats. Stone weirs are fish traps built by early residents in Penghu with basalt and coral stones. Schools of fish that swim close to shore to feed at flood tide find their way blocked by the weirs at ebb tide.
