1. Make some planned movements and gestures. 2. Before a speech, record yourself practicing. Watch the video and concentrate on eliminating vocal problems and distracting movements.

3. Use note cards! 4. Speak slowly to avoid getting tongue-tied. Take longer pauses between sentences and slow down your rate of speaking. 5. Ignore it! Do not call attention to nervous reactions.

Prepare fully – Organize, develop, and practice, practice, practice! Assume a positive attitude – YOU CAN DO IT! Use energy constructively – Use your extra “anxiety energy” wisely by alternately tightening and relaxing various muscles before you speak. Taking a deep breath and exhaling slowly as you relax your shoulders is a good last second preparation before you speak.

Speak frequently – Your self-confidence will increase through speaking experience. Use humor – Inject humor into the speech (where appropriate) to relieve tension between you (the speaker) and the audience.
