Literature 9th Grade Conflict: a struggle between two opposing forces
Characterization: the process by which the writer reveals the personality of a character. Imagery: use of vivid and descriptive language to add depth to his or her work. Irony: the opposite of what is expected, typically contradictory Mood: a feeling or emotion created by the choice of words, the characters and their actions, and the setting Tone: the attitude the author has toward the subject he or she is writing about. Plot: events that unfold throughout a story. Setting: when and where a story takes place Symbolism: way in which writers use language to express something more than the literal meaning of the words. Point of view: perspective from which the story is told. Theme: the deeper central idea of a text. 9th Grade
