On the back of the card at the top, write the definition for the word part. In the middle, write a sample word and its definition. (Back of card) life Example: biology = study of life On the front of the card, write the word part. (Front of card) bio __

3 chron chrono Examples: Chronology = study of time Chronic = having to do with time Chronometer = measuring time Meaning = time Geochronologist = specialist about the time of the earth

Examples: Dehydration = having to do with taking away water or liquid Deductible = able to lead away or lead from Degradation= a step taken away or removed (land degradation) Meaning = away (down; not; from; remove; take away) Detoxify = removing poison

6 phil philo Examples: Thermophilic = having to do with love of heat (thermophilic bacteria) Zoophilous = having to do with love of animals Philology = love of words Meaning = love Philanthropy = love of people

7 press Examples: Decompress = taking away pressure (taking away + press together) Adpress = press to or toward Meaning = press Impression = press in or together

Examples: Consulate = Title of the person who consuls in a foreign land for his/her government Potentate = Title of the person who has great power, i.e. king or dictator Meaning = C. office; title; made from (Noun) Sulfate = made from sulfur
