Before the bell rings, place your annotated copy from Up from Slavery in the bottom HW bin and your vocabulary (worksheet and cards) in the top HW bin. You need the following materials on your desk: Composition notebook Three-ring binder A blue, a black, and a red pen A pencil Paper (in your binder) Notecards Pencil Pouch Highlighters/Colored Pencils After the bell rings, you will have 2 minutes. Prepare NOW! Journals: Pages 1 & 2 blank Page 3 “Blue Guitar” Page 4 “Why I Think This World Should End” Page 5 “Spelling Father”

30 minutes View the video. Re-watch and annotate. Write an analysis of his argument. Then draw/write a personal (visual/free-write) response. You have 10 minutes! As you view the video “Spelling Father,” note the evidence (definitions, examples, anecdotes) that the speaker (Marshall Jones) provides in order to create his argument (for the spelling of “father”).
