Naming an Acid Consider the acid “HX” where H is hydrogen and X is the anion. RULE #1 When name of anion (X) ends in “ide” Acid name begins with “hydro” Followed by stem of anion Followed by “ic acid” Example: HCl

Naming Bases Name bases exactly like you would any other ionic compound. Example: NaOH = sodium hydroxide
