What to look for….. For Proteins look for NH2 and COOH, the test will not have an “R” For Carbohydrates look for a bunch of OH For Lipids look for long hydrocarbon chains (a bunch of carbons surrounded by hydrogens) For Nucleic Acids look for the 3 parts (a ring sugar, a part that has nitrogen, and a part that has phosphorus) THE ANSWERS TO EACH IMAGE ARE IN THE “NOTES” AT THE BOTTOM OF EACH SLIDE WHEN IT IS NOT IN PRESENTATION MODE.

1) Nucleic Acid

2) Lipids- Phospholipid

3) Protein

4) Carbohydrate. It doesn’t look like how we would normally see them drawn, but look at the functional groups (-OH).

5) Protein- showing dehydration synthesis

6) Nucleic Acid

7) carbohydrate

8) Nucleic Acid

9) Carbohydrate- disaccharide

10) Lipid- phospholipid

11) protein

12) Lipid- triglyceride

13) Carbohydrate- polysaccharide

14) Nucleic Acid

15) protein

16) carbohydrate

17) Lipid- just the fatty acid tail

18) Protein

19) Nucleic Acid
