TEKS of Transformations for 2nd Grade
create two-dimensional shapes based on given attributes, including number of sides and vertices; classify and sort three-dimensional solids, including spheres, cones, cylinders, rectangular prisms (including cubes as special rectangular prisms), and triangular prisms, based on attributes using formal geometric language; classify and sort polygons with 12 or fewer sides according to attributes, including identifying the number of sides and number of vertices; compose two-dimensional shapes and three-dimensional solids with given properties or attributes
3
Transformations Transformations is the term used to describe changing a shape using the motions of turning, flipping, or sliding.
4
Examples of Transformations
Three terms are used to describe turn, flip or slide, which is Rotation, Reflection and Translation

6
Translations To translate a shape we are simple sliding the object. We do not rotate or flip the object. Every point on the object is moved the same distance
7
Examples of Translation
8

9
Reflection Reflection id flipping and object, image or shape. It could be viewed as if it is seen in a mirror.
10
Example of reflection
11
Interactive Reflected Figures
12
Rotation Moving an object in a circular motion, using the central point as the pin point that does not move and all other points rotate around it.
13
Example of Rotation
14
Interactive Rotated Figures
