Mutations Hereditary: inherited from a parent and are present throughout a person’s life in virtually every cell in the body Acquired: occur at some time during a person’s life and are present only in certain cells, not in every cell in the body Environmental

Types of Mutations Substitution: One base pair is substituted for another Example: Sickle cell

Types of Mutations Deletion: a part of a chromosome or a sequence of DNA is lost during DNA replication Ex. Cystic Fibrosis
