Goal: The learner will identify place value in decimal numbers.

3 What’s a decimal and how is it different from a digit?
A digit is any of the numbers 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9. A decimal is a number in which each place value is ten times the place value to its right. How many ones does it take to make a ten? How many tens does it take to make a hundred?

5 Write in word form. The word and tells where the decimal point is. Write two hundred seventy-eight ten-thousandths in decimal form.

6 Example: A person timing your swim meet says your time was twenty-eight and six tenths seconds. Write you time as a decimal. Buddy Rice won the 2004 Indianapolis His best leading lap time was seconds. Write his time in words.
