Hominins to hominids The order Primates includes monkeys and apes.
Apes – which refers to gibbons, orang-utans, gorillas and chimpanzees – also includes humans. Hominids refers to a group of primates that walk upright and have relatively large brains – humans and the great apes belong to this group. Hominins is a subgroup of hominids and is made up of all humans and all human-like species that are known only from fossils. 12 BIOLOGY, CH 12
