Bell Ringer Describe one thing Portia and Calpurnia have in common.
Describe one difference in Portia and Calpurnia.

What did you read yesterday?

Objective! I can infer personality traits about a character based on the text. I can use text evidence to support my answers. I can determine how characters develop tension.

Plan for today: We’re going to finish reading Act II. Pay attention to how things build in these scenes as we know it is March 15 and therefore, there is trouble coming. We need a lot of characters for today: Decius, Caesar, Publius, Antony, Trebonius, Brutus, Artemidorus, Portia, Lucius, Soothsayer We’re going to stop and write and then have a sort of class discussion at the end.

Question 1: What is Decius’ motivation in this scene? How does he reach his goals?

Question 2+3: We see a lot of foreshadowing in this scene. Find and explain 2 examples of this.  This last line of Scene 2 reveals things about Brutus. What does this tell you about him? What is he doing when he is saying this?

Question 4: Why include this scene? How does it build tension?

Question 5: What instructions does Portia give to Lucius? Why do you think she asks him to do this?

Question 6: Who is the most manipulative character NOW and why?
