1 How Far We Are From Orto-Computing?

2 Gheorghe M. Ștefan: How Far We Are From Orto-Computing?
Abstract Meaningful experiments encourage us to think that the formal-structural, Turing-based approach in computation can be upgraded to the level of a structural-phenomenological one. Let’s call it the orto-computing level. Two hypothetic solutions will be presented. The first uses the mind- matter interaction at the level of a Random Event Generator, while the second inserts, in a cellular computational structure, modules with non- formal transfer functions. Both, the mind-matter interaction and the non-formal behavior, have trans-computational features, and we expect them to provide functional capabilities able to overcome the problems raised by complexity and/or non-computability. A lot of open problems are in front of the researchers eager to take into account the challenges of the orto-computing – the computation which closes strange loops in our computing environment. The road could be, if it will be, long and hard, but we must start to explore it. Colocviile Mihai Drăgănescu Dec. 2018

3 Orto-Computing: the structural-phenomenological approach in computing
A computing system with loop closed through the phenomenal realm Integrating a non-systemic/non- formal entity in a computing system Colocviile Mihai Drăgănescu Dec. 2018

4 Content Why? Mind-Matter Interaction Non-formal Activation Function
Can We Reach a Conclusion? Content Colocviile Mihai Drăgănescu Dec. 2018

5 Nothing yet fully validated experimentally
Why? There are limitations: On the complexity (intensity) of computing On computability Solutions are looming: Quantum mind-mater interaction [Atmanspacher 2012] Non-formal functions Solutions have been predicted: Mihai Drăgănescu’s structural-phenomenological approach Nothing yet fully validated experimentally Colocviile Mihai Drăgănescu Dec. 2018

6 Quantum Mind-Matter Interaction State of the Art
The world is made up of quantum objects with their existence depending on consciousness, according to experimental facts: The mind can alter the spectral magnitude and phase in a double-slit component of the interference pattern [Radin 2012] [Radin 2013]. Quantum Random Event Generator (REG) can be influenced in mind-matter experiments [Tressoldi 2014]. The best effects were obtained by participants with meditation experience. Colocviile Mihai Drăgănescu Dec. 2018

7 Psychokinesis (PK) => micro-psychokinesis (μPK).
It is time to investigate the conditions that facilitate these effects and to look for practical applications: Neuroquantology Mind-matter interaction is a genuine physical phenomenon associated with the act of intention. Meta-analysis: the overall odds against chance are in excess of a billion to one in favor of μPK [Radin 2004]. Psyleron: is a REG, the first agnitronic device (Princeton Engineering Anomalies Research Lab, PEAR, integrated in International Consciousness Research Laboratories after 2007) Colocviile Mihai Drăgănescu Dec. 2018

8 Psyleron: an agnitronic device
The Psyleron REG is based on the technology developed at the PEAR Lab., that produces a stream of digital random events using the quantum noise present in the junction of a solid- state device.  Colocviile Mihai Drăgănescu Dec. 2018

9 Psyleron on its own The analyzed data is displayed as a graph of cumulative deviations about the theoretical mean. The parabolic curves represent the point at which the cumulative imbalances in the ratio of ones and zeros in the data stream (deviations from the mean), reach statistical significance. Colocviile Mihai Drăgănescu Dec. 2018

10 Psyleron in interaction with an intentional mind
The theoretical odds are 1 in 20 that an effect exceeding these thresholds is due to chance alone. As the cumulative deviations extend beyond the threshold of the curves, the odds that the effect is due to chance diminish rapidly. Colocviile Mihai Drăgănescu Dec. 2018

11 The simplest, preliminary experiment
Multiplication: an “easy” to compute function Division: a “hard” to compute function The loop: mind is focused to minimize the value of δ displayed on the screen: The experiment is designed to compute the “hard” function using the “easy” function and the loop closed through an intentional mind. Colocviile Mihai Drăgănescu Dec. 2018

12 A meaningful orto-computing experiment is when the direct function is in NP
The structural effort for: Multiplication is in O(n2) Division is in O(n3) No big deal! When the structural effort for: Inverse function is in O(nk) Direct function is in O(kn) where k is a constant, then it’s a big deal! Colocviile Mihai Drăgănescu Dec. 2018

13 Non-Formal Functions What means a non-formal function?
Negative definition: a non-formal function is a function which can not be computed according to the Church-Turing Thesis We need a positive definition saying what is as non-formal function How can be proved that a relation can not be computed? Experimentally: we can capture a phenomenal evolution in time A measured value is truncated by the accuracy of the measurement. Does it remain non-formal? Maybe in the missing value due to the truncation, the essence of the phenomenon manifested Working hypothesis: the accuracy of the measurement is enough to capture the main phenomenal aspects of the process Colocviile Mihai Drăgănescu Dec. 2018

14 Examples of non-linear system transfer functions
The system is somehow “sensitive” to the input value. Colocviile Mihai Drăgănescu Dec. 2018

15 Non-Formal Functions Non-Formal Activation Function for NN
Currently: the activation function φ is a non-linear one What if: the activation function φ is a non-formal one Multiplication and addition are computed The function φ is “applied informally” Colocviile Mihai Drăgănescu Dec. 2018

16 Can we reach a conclusion?
Hard to conclude in such a hypothetic context Too many open problems: How can be defined the distance, δ, from the (best) solution? Do we need specific meditation experience? Defining & validating the non-formal Capturing the non-formal But, if at least one of these experiment will work, then it could be a successful structural-phenomenological starting event.
