1 Exploratory LUNCH Math English Science Social Studies Locker
November 10, 2014 Day A Math English Science LUNCH Social Studies Locker Exploratory

2 Activator November 10, 2014 1) Copy down tonight’s homework. 2) Take out your notebook 3) In your notebook, find the quotient using a model. Rachel completed ¾ of her cleaning in 6 hours. How many total hours will Rachel spend cleaning?

3 ACTIVATOR 6 ÷ ¾ ¾ of what is 6?

4 Objective: Students use fraction bars, number lines, and area models, to show the quotient of whole numbers and fractions and to show the connection between them and the multiplication of fractions. Students will also understand the difference between a whole number being divided by a fraction and a fraction being divided by a whole number. Students will demonstrate their understanding when they successfully complete their ticket-to-go. 6.NS.1

5 Interpretation of division problems
Measurement division When we know the original amount of the size or measure of one part, we use measurement division to find the number of parts. Ex. “how many ___________ are in ______________?

6 Example 2: (pg. S. 7) Molly uses 9 cups of flour to bake bread
Example 2: (pg. S.7) Molly uses 9 cups of flour to bake bread. If this is ¾ of the total amount of flour she started with, what was the original amount of flour?

7 Example 2: (pg. S.7) To divide 9 by ¾, we divide 9 by 3 to get the amount for each rectangle, then, we multiply by 4 because there are 4 rectangles in total.

8 Example 2: (pg. S.7)

9 November 10, 2014 Day A topic. How do you feel?

10 Exercises 1–5 (15 minutes) pg. 7-9
Students work in pairs to solve the following questions.

11 topic. How do you feel?

12 Lesson 3 Objective: SWBAT use fraction bars and area models to show the division of fractions by fractions with common denominators.

13 Draw a model to represent 12 ÷ 3.
Opening Exercise pg. 11 Draw a model to represent 12 ÷ 3. Show a model using measurement division Show a model using Partitive division. How could we reword this question?

14

15 topic. How do you feel?

16 Ticket-to-go Solve the division problem using a model.
November 10, 2014 Day A Solve the division problem using a model. Henry bought 4 pies which he plans to share with a group of his friends. If there is exactly enough to give each member of the group one-sixth of the pie, how many are in the group?

17 November 10, 2014 Day A Problem Set on Page 10

18 November 10, 2014 Day A Accommodations Read or reread presentation or activity directions, as needed or after prompting Use examples to model and act as a guide for emerging learners
