1 “How to Study and Critique a Speech”
Good ideas? What will you copy? Poor ideas? What will you do differently? Surprises? Confusion? Most important thing to remember?

2 Our Skills (so far) Body Language Big 3 (Rules for Public Speaking)
no “I” start and stop with power show confidence (through body language) Evidence Analysis (PROP method) Rebuttals (NAME THE GROUP!!)

3 A fun game to practice everything!
Over / Under A fun game to practice everything!

4 Rules 3 people: 1st shares question, answers with a number and explains completely (cause-effect reasoning) 2nd takes either “over” or “under.” NO number! 3rd takes what’s left. NO number! Vote. Winner laughs at losers.

5 Example 1st: How many pairs of shoes is the perfect amount to own?
Says 17, explains completely with cause-effect reasoning for both under and over EVIDENCE! ANALYSIS! INTRO and CONCLUDE! Refutes possible arguments for why it’s END WITH POWER! 2nd goes, takes OVER, explains. 3rd goes, takes UNDER, explains. Vote, A, B, or C.

6 shoes The perfect number of shoes to own at one time is No higher or lower. REASON WHY 30 IS PERFECT WITH CAUSE/EFFECT REASONING… REASON WHY MORE THAN 30 IS BAD, CAUSE-EFFECT: More shoes than 30, and you are confused and overwhelmed every morning, which would lead to you being late to school and missing valuable learning. QUOTE OR SOME OTHER EVIDENCE HERE FOLLOWING PROPS METHOD WHY FEWER THAN 30 IS BAD, CAUSE-EFFECT: While 30 is perfect and more is scary and confusing, fewer pairs than 30 is just really sad. Why, you don’t have a new pair for each day of some months! Worse, too few shoes—fewer than 30—would cause … EVIDENCE ANALYSIS CONCLUDE

7 Rubric 5 points: Going and speaking and trying 1 each: -no “I” -powerful conclusion (better than “that’s why”) -clear number, reason to answer question -clear cause-effect reasoning for Over -clear cause-effect reasoning for Under -at least two pieces of evidence 4 points possible: -dynamic speaking, with obvious vocal-and-body-language adjustments and actions
