Today’s Objective SWBAT: Identify examples of indirect characterization used by Dr. Seuss to define a character of their choice. Indirect Characterization Independent Practice HO: Read, Write, Think Graphic Organizers Last class, the direct and indirect methods authors use to reveal/define character Ask students if the remember the five indirect methods they learned Post and share the table with the mnemonic device of STEAL to help students remember Today, you will choose a character from The Cat and the Hat and identify indirect characterization methods used by Seuss to define the character Have students pick a character and obtain the corresponding graphic organizer Have students watch the story and complete their organizers (safe and YouTube links in handout folder), post STEAL chart while students work independently Collect student papers Reveal and discuss examples of indirect characterization used by Seuss
