Speed vs Time Graphs Created by Mrs. Bertoson Feb 2012
2
How to read the speed vs time graph
The slope is acceleration (changing speed) Horizontal lines are constant speed Horizontal lines on the O are stopped Diagonal lines are changing speed
3
The speed is 4 m/s How to find speed Find the speed at 4 seconds.
Find 4 seconds on the x-axis and follow it vertically until you reach the graph. From this point, find the y-value (speed) by looking to the left. The speed is 4 m/s
4
Practice finding speed
Find the speed at 0.25 seconds. Find 0.25 seconds on the x-axis and follow it vertically until you reach the graph. From this point, find the y-value (speed) by looking to the left. The speed is 250 cm/s
5
How to find distance Plug in the numbers: distance= speed x time
Find the distance travelled after 4 seconds. Find 4 seconds on the x-axis and follow it vertically until you reach the graph. From this point, find the y-value (speed) by looking to the left. Plug in the numbers: distance= speed x time distance= 4s x 4 m/s = 16 m
6
Practice finding distance
Find the distance travelled after 10 seconds. Find 10 seconds on the x-axis and follow it vertically until you reach the graph. From this point, find the y-value (speed) by looking to the left. Plug in the numbers: distance= speed x time distance= 10s x 7 m/s = 70 m
