1 How to: Keys RA Online Training

2 NEVER LEAVE THE BUILDING WITH YOUR
X-Keys X-keys allow entry in the buildings RA office and/or Fishbowl and release the master key from the lock block in each building. To release master keys: Insert the x-key into master key block and turn the key. When turning the x-key, you will see the master key turn on the other side of the block. Then, simply pull the master key out of the block. Note: When you take the master key, your x-keys will be locked into the other side of the block. To retrieve you x-keys you will need to return the master keys to the block. NEVER LEAVE THE BUILDING WITH YOUR X-KEYS!!!

3 Lockouts First: Ask the student for their UMass Pass and verify their room location on the roster (See step 3 if they don’t have ID with them). Second: Retrieve the master keys and go up to the room with the student. Third: When letting the student into the room have them show you their key and ID to be sure its not lost. Note: If this occurs on duty, please note the name and room number of the student in the log.

4 Issuing a Spare Key First: Ask the student what happened to their key (Lost, Stolen, Left at home, etc). Second: Ask the student for their UMass Pass and room number verify their information on a roster. Third: Record the students name, room number, date and reason for having the key on the spare key log. Be sure to put your initials next to so we know who gave out the spare key. Fourth: Look for the correct key in the key box and issue the student the spare key. your RD so they are aware a spare key is out. Location of the spare key log will vary by building– Consult you RD.

5 Returning Spare Keys 1.) Ask the student for their UMass Pass and room number verify their information on a roster. 2.) Go to the Spare key log and find the entry for the student from when the spare was issued to them. 3.) Record the date the key was returned next to the entry in the key log and put your initials next to it. 4.) Return the spare key to the appropriate hook in the key box. your RD to let them know it has been returned.
