1 Cells The Basic Units of Life

2 Two types of cells 1. Prokaryotic – cells that do not have a nucleus
Example: Bacteria 2. Eukaryotic – cells that have a nucleus Example: Almost all cells other than bacteria.

3

4 Prokaryotic vs. eukaryotic

5 Cell –smallest unit that can carry on all life processes
All living things have at least one cell Humans have about 200 different types of cells. Tissue- a group of cells that work together to perform a specific job in the body. Examples: Blood, Fat, and Muscle

6 Organ- two or more tissues working together to perform a specific job.
Example: Heart, Lung, and Kidney

7 Organ Systems- organs working together in groups to perform particular jobs.
Example: Digestive System and Circulatory System

8 Organism- anything that can live on its own.
Unicellular Organism – an organism that is single celled. Multi-cellular Organism – an organism that is made up of two or more cells. Organism Circulatory System
