Discriminant The discriminant is used to tell what kind of solutions a quadratic function has. Properties If the discriminant is >0 & is a perfect square , there are 2 real rational solutions If the discriminant is >0 & is not a perfect square, there are 2 real irrational solutions If the discriminant =0, there is 1 real rational solution If the discriminant <0, there are2 complex solutions (conjugates)
