Poem Analysis Wisdom

Wisdom Modern American Poetry
It was a night of early spring, The winter-sleep was scarcely broken; Around us shadows and the wind Listened for what was never spoken. Through half a score of years are gone, Spring comes as sharply now as then- But if we had it all to do It would be done the same again, It was a spring that never came; But we have lived enough to know That what we never have, remains; It is the things we have that go.

S is for Speaker I think that the speaker in the poem, is recalling the death of a loved one.

O is for Occasion I think the occasion in the story is recalling a death of a close friend or a loved one.

A is for audience I think the intended audience is someone else who lost a friend or a loved one.

P is for Purpose I think that the purpose of the poem is to help someone who lost a loved one and that that he/she isn’t the only person who has experienced this traumatizing event.

S is for Subject I think that the poem is about the death a loved one and how they might have died during spring so every spring the memories are recalled more sharply.

T is for tone I think that the poem is sad because it is recalling the memory of someone close and still sharp after ten years.
