Let’s see what we’ve got.. enhance these boring sentences with your team. GO!
Sammy went across the icy pond. The girls laughed as they rushed to dance class. Miss Thomas said, “don’t do that.” Tyler ate lunch, barely stopping to breathe in between bites.
9
Misconceptions! Ask yourself…
Did I enhance the verb or did I add adjectives (or enhancers) to create a more vivid sentence? YOUTUBE ROCKS!
10
Hmm… I think verbs may relate to something we studied in poetry!
Replace the word “walked” with the six verbs below. Examine what this does to the sentence, and what you are now imagining. How does it change the “picture” of the sentence. Jose walked into the house. Now reread the sentence substituting each of the following verbs in place of the word walked: slammed darted charged sauntered danced tiptoed
11
THATS RIGHT! TONE/MOOD
12
Why does this matter? Like we discussed before….
We will be going back to our seed moment to enhance it using writer’s craft that we study (narrative techniques). Tomorrow… you will have a partner read your strawberry seed moment, and rate you based on how many vivid verbs you have included in your story!
13
Read Aloud... Please paste 4 sticky notes to the top of your desk and number them 1-4. We will be completing the active engagement strategy again today. Everytime I stop, you will be looking for a sentence that stands out to you that includes a very vivid verb. You will write this sentence on the sticky note. You will be sharing this with a partner when we are done, and you will be analyzing one of these sticky notes after the reading. The more vivid the verb, the easier it will be to analyze!!!!
