What do we mean when we say Industrial Age? Let’s break it down: “Industry” the aggregate (whole, sum) of manufacturing or technically productive enterprises in a particular field, often named after its principal product: the automobile industry; the steel industry. trade or manufacture in general: the rise of industry in Africa. systematic work or labor

So what does this mean? Industrial Revolution greatly increases industrial production as well as the speed and volume of transportation. Industrial countries also gained power advantages over the rest of the world due to their mass produced weapons and steamships.

What is Imperialism? the policy of extending the rule or authority of an empire or nation over foreign countries, or of acquiring and holding colonies and dependencies.

The Age of Imperialism, 1850-1914
Causes Nationalism To gain power, European nations compete for colonies and trade. Imperialism Economic Competition Europeans exerted influence over the economic, political, and social lives of people they colonized. Demand for raw materials and new markets spurs a search for colonies. Missionary Spirit Europeans believe they must spread their Christian teachings to the world.
