4 From Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein:
At the moment he animates his patchwork of flesh I recoil in horror. His limbs were in proportion, and I had selected his features as beautiful. Beautiful!-Great God! His yellow skin scarcely covered the work of muscles and arteries beneath: his hair was of a lustrous black, and flowing; his teeth of a pearly whiteness; but these luxuriences only formed a more horrid contrast with his watery eyes, that seems almost of the same colour as the dun white sockets in which they were set, his shriveled complexion and straight black lips.

5 Objective: Create a monster inspired by something you fear or something you used to fear. Write a descriptive paper based on this monster.

6 But first, brainstorm: Where does it live? What does it eat?
How does it smell? What sounds does it make? What does it feel like? What does it look like? How does it move?

7 Your paper should: Have a clear beginning and ending (give your fear a scenario or situation) Contain transition words (Next, also, before) 1 and ½ pages long Be stuffed with sensory description Include similes (like/as) and metaphors YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO USE THE WORD FOR WHAT SCARED YOU, HOWEVER!!! – (don’t name it!)
