1 Revision Tips for the Actual Exam
4th Year Standard Grade

2 Many pupils get tense during the actual exam and make mistakes right from the start. The following tips are designed to give you a structured way of tackling the exam paper so you can give yourself the best chance of putting your revision into practice. Relax! This is your chance to demonstrate what you know. Allow a few minutes to read the question paper so you clearly understand what is required. Work out the approximate time per mark (1.75 minutes a mark). Keep your watch on the table to help you. Answer questions clearly and avoid waffle to pad out an answer. If you are struggling with a question move on. Get the “easy” marks first and go back to difficult questions. Check tables, graphs carefully as they will provide useful information to help with questions.

3 Many pupils get tense during the actual exam and make mistakes right from the start. The following tips are designed to give you a structured way of tackling the exam paper so you can give yourself the best chance of putting your revision into practice. Allow time (if possible) at the end of the exam to check over your answers. If you can add anything it could change a good answer into a great one. Read the sources very carefully. In the History exam 4 out of the 8 question types are totally about interpreting sources. Do not give a lazy answer. Quote from the sources extensively but do not merely copy the source out. You will get marked down for this.
