2. Announcement I: If you miss class, make sure you check the web site first. You’re also allowed one day per day of absence to make up work unless you make special arrangements with me, so please keep that in mind.
Announcement II: Turn to one person to your side, front, or back. Shake their hand. Now turn to one more person on either side of you. Shake their hand too. These two people are your go-to people if and when you come in late and need to know what you’ve missed and what we’re doing. Just hand me your pass, sit down, and ask them quietly.

Get with a partner. (Just one other person.) You’ll read section two together.
- Note the vocab in light blue in your notes.
- Answer the following three questions in your notes (yes, please copy them down):
1. Explain why and how Europeans obtained access to slaves.
2. Why did Africans engage in the slave trade?
3. What impact did the slave trade have on the culture of Benin?
- Please also look at the map on page 416 and answer the two questions.
At the end of the period, let’s go over the map together.
I will not collect this, but you will be able to use your answers on a pop quiz on our block day this week. (YES I SAID POP QUIZ)
