Plot and Theme Literary elements include character, plot structure, setting, and theme Plot: an organized pattern of events Consists of a conflict, rising action, climax, and resolution Theme: a broad statement about life that the reader determines from the events and characters in a story

Summarize A summary retells what was read
A summary does not give every detail, but focuses on the main ideas of the text Summarize what has happened in The Breadwinner so far on a note card

Spelling: Words with the suffixes –ate, -ive, and -ship

Contractions A contraction is a shortened form of two words
do not = don’t An apostrophe is used to show one or more letters have been left out have not = haven’t the “o” has been omitted
