2 Remember the 2nd of the THREE LAWS OF THOUGHT
Excluded Middle: Something either is or is not If something is AND is not at the same time, then there is a conflict or a PARADOX If something happens when it can’t possibly happen… Paradoxes don’t seem to exist outside of logical thought and therefore show the limits to logic

3 TIME AND PHILOSOPHY Plato: Time is the moving image of eternity
Aristotle: Time is the effect of change in the material world –time he felt was a smooth changing continuum Plotinus: Soul passing from one stage to another

4 TIME AND PHILOSOPHY T.S. Eliot: Time is a pattern of timeless moments – the present is but one Oriental philosophy: Time is the difference between being and not being Saint Augustine: Being is precariously balanced between the twin abysses of ‘not yet’ and ‘no longer’
