He told Americans that he would withdraw troops, which he did not immediately do.

Johnson lost all popularity due to the war and he knew he could not win another election.

VIETNAMIZATION Nixon’s policy of removing American troops and replacing them with S. Vietnamese troops. This led to a decline in opposition.

He did not want to lose the war. He invaded Cambodia and the Viet Cong in 1970. Invasion ignited more protests. *Banned use of Hoovercrafts
