The Earthquake The earthquake happened on April 18, 1906.
The earthquake had a 7.7to has high has 8.3 magnitude. The economic impact has been compared with Hurricane Katrina.

The Deaths At the time their were only 375 reported deaths.
Half of the people living in S.F. were left homeless. Many San Francisco residents fled across the bay to Oakland and Berkeley. Of all of the deaths 189 of them happened outside the city limits.

How It Felt Shaking was felt from Oregon to Las Angeles and a inland as far as central Nevada. The earthquake has been recorded as one of the worst national disaster to ever of happened. The main shock occurred off shore about two miles away from the city.

How Long Did It Last? The main tremor lasted about 20 to 25 seconds.
Violent after-shocks started a violent shaking that lasted about 45 to 60 more seconds.
