An endothermic reaction is accompanied by or requires the absorption of heat. Endothermic reactions take in energy from another source to provide the activation energy required for a reaction to occur. Examples of endothermic reactions: Photosynthesis Making ice cream Baking bread Cooking an egg Melting ice

Exothermic Reactions An exothermic reaction is accompanied by the release of heat. Exothermic reactions release heat due to there being excess energy in the reaction. Examples of exothermic reactions: Mixing water and strong acids Making ice cubes Nuclear fission Burning sugar A candle flame Fire
