1 Principle #2 Believe It’s Possible

2 What does this mean? “Believe in yourself! Have faith in your abilities! Without a humble but reasonable confidence in your own powers, you cannot be successful or happy.” - Norman Vincent Peale Bestselling author and speaker

3 Quick Write (8 minutes) In your notes, write a paragraph about a time when you accomplished something that others thought you could not do. Then, write a paragraph about a situation where you believed you would not do well at something and your belief became reality Be prepared to share with the class!

4 Don’t Let the Opinions of Others Stop You
Thomas Alva Edison held 1,093 patents for different inventions. Many of them, like the light bulb, the phonograph, and the motion picture camera, were brilliant creations that have a huge influence on our everyday life. However, not everything he created was a success; he also had a few failures. One concept that never took off was Edison's interest in using cement to build things. He formed the Edison Portland Cement Co. in 1899, and made everything from cabinets (for phonographs) to pianos and houses. Unfortunately, at the time, concrete was too expensive and the idea was never accepted. Cement wasn't a total failure, though. His company was hired to build Yankee Stadium in the Bronx.

5 You Get What You Expect Expectancy Theory states that our brains learns what to expect. If you expect to fail, you will! If you expect to succeed you will!

6 Moving From “I Can’t” to “I Can!”
What we believe about ourselves becomes our reality. “I Can’t” Statements “I Can” Statements I wish I were able to… If only I were… I would try but… I can’t… “The only real limits to our potential are those we give ourselves.”

7 Believe Even When Others Don’t Believe in You
Only you know your full potential.

8 Don’t Worry About Other People
Dr. Daniel Amen’s 18/40/60 Rule: “When you’re 18, you worry about what everybody is thinking of you; when you’re 40, you don’t give a darn what anybody thinks of you; when you’re 60, you realize nobody’s been thinking of you at all.” When you worry about what others think, you loose focus of your goals.

9 Silent Reading Read about believing it’s possible on pages in the book entitled The Success Principles by Jack Canfield and Kent Healy. Take down one page of Cornell notes.
