Line Line gives direction to a design.
Line causes your eyes to move left and right or up and down. Direction of lines create certain effects in a design. One type of line should dominate a design, others can be added for interest.

Vertical Line Vertical Lines add height, strength, and dignity.
Examples: pillars tall pieces of furniture long straight folds of draperies.

Horizontal Line Horizontal Lines add stability and restfullness.
Examples: long, low roofs shelves long pieces of furniture such as chests and sofas

Diagonal Lines

Diagonal Lines Diagonal Lines suggest activity. Too many of them in a room can be tiring. Examples roofs slanted ceilings staircases

Curved Line

Curved Line Curved Line adds a graceful, softening effect. Examples:
doorway arches ruffled curtains furniture with curved edges
