The Purpose of a Resume A resume is the bait that gets you in the door for an interview. A bad resume can prevent you from getting the interview. If there is no interview, there's no chance of getting the job! 5

Customize Resume The most effective resumes are customized to a specific job title. Research position and company to determine essential skills and knowledge required to do the job. Focus on employer's stated job requirements. Customize resume around these requirements. Do not exaggerate or lie on a resume, the employer will expect you to be able to do everything you say you can do! 6

Resume is more than a list of jobs. It is the first contact with the employer. Resume tells employer what type of employee you are and the work you will produce. 7

Critical to describe qualifications in a clearly written, attractive format that sells you to the employer. Need to impress employer enough to want to meet you in person. Remember, “You only get one opportunity to make a good first impression!” 8
