Bellwork-5 min. Materials: Questions from up front, annotated Corn Pone Opinions, writing utensil. Tasks: 1.) Discuss last night’s annotation with the people near you. Where did you find the appeals?

Close read Corn Pone in order to: - Identify how purpose develops throughout a text. - infer purpose - i.e. what is the argument? What was the author hoping to achieve?

Let’s read the questions provided aloud to help us identify the depths of Twain’s argument.

Group Class Work – 15 min Working with ALL members of your group, compose a thorough answer for your given question, making sure to use specific textual evidence found in Twain’s essay. Work as a group, but record your group answer on your own paper… as you will ultimately be responsible for having answers to each discussion question.

Discuss the DETAILS of your Rhetorical Triangle with your team. How were you able to pull specifics about Persona, Context, Audience? Did your purpose change?
