2. How does sedimentary rock form?
“Sediment” means pieces
Weathering and erosion: freezing, thawing, rain, acid, and plants all break up rock into small pieces.
Deposition: to deposit… water carries these small pieces of rock and deposits them into a lake or ocean.
Compaction: thick layers build up, pushing down on the layers beneath making them solid
Cementation: Some minerals dissolve making a kind of cement to cement the rock pieces together.

Clastic Rocks: formed when rock pieces are squeezed.
Common Clastic rocks are shale and sandstone
Organic Rocks: plants and animals are deposited in layers

Rock salt is made of the mineral halite
