The Crime Scene A crime scene is a location where a crime took place.
A crime is simply an unlawful act.

Crime Scenes Crime scenes may or may not be where the crime was committed. There are different levels and types of crime scenes.

Protecting the Scene A perimeter is taped off with barricade tape in order to keep only those necessary on site. This is done to preserve evidence of the crime.

Chain of Evidence It is important that any and all evidence is documented. Where is was collected. Who had custody of the evidence.

How to Document On the bag, there is a list for each person to sign off on as to who has taken custody.

Documentation All evidence must Be documented.
No evidence may be entered after the scene has been released.
