What controls our breathing rate?
Carbon dioxide & the Medulla oblongata - the part of the brain that controls our breathing (& heart rate) high levels of CO2 in blood is detected by the M. O. in the brain ---> increase our breathing rate & depth of breathing

2. Oxygen and chemo receptors in large blood vessels
special cells in the aorta and other large blood vessels detect low oxygen increase our breathing rate & depth of breathing

3. Stretch receptors in the alveoli
• pressure cells in the alveoli detect pressure & will not allow you to inhale too far
