First, let’s read “Thanatopsis” together. As we read, you should annotate your thoughts:
Circle any words you don’t know
Put an question mark next to lines you don’t understand
Underline any parts you think you “get”
Next, we’re going to read through “Thanatopsis” together again. This time, we’re going to stop at each stanza and discuss what we think it means. You might want to take notes as we discuss, because you’re going to be expected to answer questions about the poem afterwards.
