Serving personnel, veterans and families of military members Emergency communications and casework Military family support Deployment briefings Veteran Support Special support activities Operation Care Package The BASH Emergency Communication: Since its inception the American Red Cross has played a critical role in supporting those serving in the armed forces and their families. With resources and expertise around the world, the Red Cross provides emergency communications and other services to support military families. The Red Cross assists in communicating emergency family matters, such as serious illness, death in the family or birth of a child. After verifying the emergency, we will relay the information to the military authorities who will then deliver the information to the armed forces member. This information can then be used to verify the situation for leave requests.

9 The Red Cross Must Always Be Ready
We respond to nearly 64,000 disasters annually—from wildfires to single-family house fires.

10 The Everyday Disaster

11 Everyday Disasters The Red Cross responds to a disaster every eight minutes. Locally, we respond every eight hours. The vast majority are home fires. When volunteers arrive, families are often on curbs—sometimes without shoes or coats—watching their homes burn.

12 After the Fire When fire takes a house, it takes everything that makes a house a home. Immediately following a fire, we meet basic needs: Finding a safe place to stay Purchasing food, clothing and toiletries Notifying loved ones We also help families get back on their feet: Replacing lost possessions Navigating insurance Processing the emotional loss

13 Seven People Die in U.S. Home Fires Daily1
That’s why we launched Sound the Alarm fire safety events. Since 2014, volunteers have made over 623,000 households safer by: Installing smoke alarms Changing batteries Helping families make escape plans Targeting high-risk neighborhoods 1National Fire Protection Association, 2017
