Inductive wall thickness measurement during aluminium foil milling
Principle: Reduction of self inductance of a coil by the induced opposite magnetic field, due to eddy currents in a nearby conductor. At high frequency these currents are only in a thin layer (skin effect) and can be used to measure insulator thickness (example: paint) At medium frequency the conductor thickness and the skin depth can be of the same order. The VELO Upgrade 0.3mm-foil-and-flange-out-of-one-piece has been tested to be leak tight below 10^-9 mbar l/s !! This is a fantastic result and will be hopefully soon be followed up by an L-shape foil structure test box. Frans Mul 5/24/2019
