Positive & Negative Feedback

Organ systems work together to maintain homeostasis, which is a steady internal state inside the body. The body keeps a steady internal state, even though the outside environment continuously changes. The body maintains homeostasis using feedback mechanisms: Negative feedback – “stop doing what you’re doing” and return back to the original state Example hot temperatures outside raise the body’s temperature, sweating works to lower body temperature and return it to normal Positive feedback – “keep doing what you’re doing” and do NOT return back to the original state Example during childbirth contractions cause pain but keep happening in order for a baby to be born
