Sound
2
What are 5 important ways we hear sound everyday?
3
Sound Sound is energy. Can you think of anything else that we recently studied that is energy? LIGHT
4
How do you think sound starts?
Sound starts with vibrations.
5
What are vibrations? Vibrations are back and forth movements that are caused by a form of energy. All sound begins with a vibration. Put your hand on your throat and hum. What do you feel? A vibration!!
6
How does sound travel? Sound travels in waves away from the source in all directions like ripples in a pond.
7
What does a sound wave look like?
8
What are wavelengths? the distance from area of sound particles to the next
9
What determines how the sound wave looks?
Frequency And Pitch
10
Frequency Frequency is how many vibrations are in this sound in one second. This is very similar to a frequency table in math.
11
What is pitch? Pitch is how high or low the sound is. Cow=low pitch Cricket=high pitch
12
How are frequency and pitch related?
High pitch = High frequency Low pitch = Low frequency A higher pitch causes there to be more vibrations in a second. So… the frequency is higher.
13
What does a high and low frequency wave look like?
14
What does a high and low frequency wave look like?
15
Amplitude vs. Intensity
Amplitude is how loud a sound is. (The level of sound on your stereo or TV) Intensity is your opinion of how loud the sound is. (Your mom may tell you to turn down the TV because she thinks that it is too loud and you don’t think so)
