Words to know Point of Intersection Consistent Inconsistent
-Ordered Pair Point of Intersection Consistent Inconsistent Independent Dependent Slope X-Intercept Y-intercept Domain Range
3
Ordered Pair Two numbers written in a certain order. Usually written in parentheses like this: (4,5) Can be used to show the position on a graph, where the "x" (horizontal) value is first, and the "y" (vertical) value is second.
4
Point of Intersection The point at which two lines cross or meet
5
Consistent A system of equations with at least one ordered pair that satisfies both equations.
6
Inconsistent A system that has no solution
7
Independent A system of equations with exactly one solution
8
Dependent A system of equations that has an infinite number of solutions; lines coincide when graphed
9
Slope The slope of a line is a number that measures its "steepness", usually denoted by the letter m. It is the change in y for a unit change in x along the line.
10
X-intercept The x-intercept of a line is the point at which the line crosses the x axis. ( i.e. where the y value equals 0 ) x-intercept = ( x, 0 ) The point (-1,0)
11
Y-Intercept The y-intercept of a line is the point at which the line crosses the y axis. ( i.e. where the x value equals 0 ) y-intercept = ( 0, y ) The point (0,1)
12
Domain The x values The values of the independent variable
The input values In the ordered pairs: (1, 2), (3, 4), (5, 9), (6, 11) The domain is: 1, 3, 5, 6
13
In the ordered pairs: (1, 2), (3, 4), (5, 9), (6, 11)
Range The y values The values of the dependent variable The output values In the ordered pairs: (1, 2), (3, 4), (5, 9), (6, 11) The range is: 2, 4, 9, 11
