Mentoring new Pilot Club members pays immense dividends! It enhances the new member’s satisfaction with their new club! This transforms into deeper engagement and longer tenure!

5 New members are ready for mentoring!
A new member is cause for celebration! New members are eager to learn and be involved. New members want to feel they belong to their new club. New members want validation they are making a wise investment of their time, talent and treasure in Pilot International!

Welcoming personality. Committed to club growth. Knowledgeable about Pilot International. Vitality and energy that is contagious. Leads by example.

8 The Mentor’s Role Be present at the new member’s installation.
Schedule a time to chat and get to know the new member. Express a special interest in getting to know more about the new member’s family, their interests, hobbies and career pursuits. Determine a ‘commitment period’ for mentoring so the new member has time to understand and become engaged with Pilot. Attend the New Member Orientation presentation. Introduce the new member to other club members; create an informal time to socialize. Keep the new member informed of service projects, fundraisers, etc.; follow through helping them become involved. Share interesting information about the club structure, meeting format, etc. Have fun and be encouraging!

9 Mentor Pointers: Recall your early days of Pilot membership.
Share Pilot’s rich history. Invite other members to share their personal Pilot history. Our goal: to inspire each new member to become 25 and 50 year Pilot members!

10 How to be a great mentor:
Be committed. Know your mentee can be anyone, anywhere. Really listen and encourage. Learn from your mentee! Be open minded and compassionate. Be patient. Be a role model – actions speak louder than words. Care and invest in the relationship!
