1 Creating a system of agility: guiding the qb’s thought process

2 Sustainable success: Must have a SYSTEM, but..
Be open to refining the process (continuous improvement) Must be able to teach the process Must be have agility under pressure Must be able to be communicated

3 The qb position… Predictors of success are low (Ex. ESPN = 30%) Why? Too much emphasis on things that are LESS IMPORTANT Arm talent Height CAN BE DEVELOPED! More Important Accuracy Anticipation Process information Ability to deal w/ failure

4 What does the qb need? Answers to the problems he will see
Needs sophistication (not complexity) Same pictures for him in as many ways as possible Variations to attack different parts of the defense with different people Teaching must commensurate with the “test” (Gameday) Must be given the right answers Run the BEST play, not just any play run as fast as possible Nor can it always be a “catch all” Play caller must take responsibility

5 The THOUGHT PROCESS is given on every play (RAMS)
Reading system Pure Progressions: Advantage Concept (Only 3) Stretch Object Scan Third Fix Scramble Advantage Principles: - Safety Structure - LB Displacement - Motion Adjustment - 1 on 1/ Combo **All of the above build off of the same pictures, making them learnable** The THOUGHT PROCESS is given on every play (RAMS)

6 timeframes Post Season – system adjustments (rebuild infrastructure) Spring – take advantage of QB SCHOOL (and 7 on 7) - I think mistakes are made here by re-starting - Opportunity to cover Situational Offense - Define answers to coverage problems Fall Camp - Add protection considerations In Season - Game Plan - Practice implementation
