1 Heb 5:11-14 Growing up

2 Heb 5:11-14 11 About this we have much to say, and it is hard to explain, since you have become dull of hearing.  12 For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you again the basic principles of the oracles of God. You need milk, not solid food,  13 for everyone who lives on milk is unskilled in the word of righteousness, since he is a child. 14 But solid food is for the mature, for those who have their powers of discernment trained by constant practice to distinguish good from evil.

4 Why do we need to grow up? 12 For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you again the basic principles of the oracles of God. You need milk, not solid food,

6 What is growing up? 14 But solid food is for the mature, for those who have their powers of discernment trained by constant practice to distinguish good from evil.

7 Maturity = Sacrifice

8 AFL Draft 2018

9 All major decisions require sacrifice (Lk 24:27,28)
27 Whoever does not bear his own cross and come after me cannot be my disciple.  28 For which of you, desiring to build a tower, does not first sit down and count the cost, whether he has enough to complete it?

11 2 keys Competence commitment

12 Competence

13 Competence Matt 25:20,  And he who had received the five talents came forward, bringing five talents more, saying, ‘Master, you delivered to me five talents; here, I have made five talents more.’  21 His master said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a little; I will set you over much. Enter into the joy of your master.’

14 Eccl 9:10 10 Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with your might, for there is no work or thought or knowledge or wisdom in Sheol, to which you are going.

15 1 Tim 4:7-10 7 Have nothing to do with irreverent, silly myths. Rather train yourself for godliness;  8 for while bodily training is of some value, godliness is of value in every way, as it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come.  9 The saying is trustworthy and deserving of full acceptance.  10 For to this end we toil and strive, because we have our hope set on the living God, who is the Savior of all people, especially of those who believe.

16 1 Tim 4:12-15  12 Let no one despise you for your youth, but set the believers an example in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, in purity.  13 Until I come, devote yourself to the public reading of Scripture, to exhortation, to teaching.  14 Do not neglect the gift you have, which was given you by prophecy when the council of elders laid their hands on you.  15 Practice these things, immerse yourself in them, so that all may see your progress.

17 Prov 27:17 - 17 Iron sharpens iron,     and one man sharpens another.
Feedback

18 Commitment

19 Mark 8:34 34 And calling the crowd to him with his disciples, he said to them, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.

20 2 Tim 4:2 2 preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, and exhort, with complete patience and teaching.

21 Benefits of growth

22 Why grow? Fulfilment Faith Hope Love Crown of life

23 Gal 6:2-5 2 Bear one another's burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.  3 For if anyone thinks he is something, when he is nothing, he deceives himself.  4 But let each one test his own work, and then his reason to boast will be in himself alone and not in his neighbor. 5 For each will have to bear his own load.
