Book of nahum Background
Nahum means consolation, typifying the words his message would bring to Judah. Assyria is at the peak of their power…likely written about 620 B.C. Nahum’s message is the downfall of Assyria which would remind Judah of the power and justice of God. Message may have been intended for God’s people rather than for Nineveh.
